Quick start

Build your first Classroom structure.

A practical five-minute guide to the normal Course Builder workflow.

1. Prepare your Drive folder

Use a clear folder structure. A typical course folder might look like this:

Year 7 Computing
E-Safety / Lesson 1 / resources
E-Safety / Lesson 2 / resources
Networks / Lesson 1 / resources

Course Builder can recognise both a folder containing several topics and a single topic folder containing lesson folders.

2. Launch and connect

Open Course Builder and approve the Google permissions. The app uses them to browse folder metadata, read selected description Docs and create Classroom content.

Launch Course Builder

3. Choose the source folder

Select Start building, browse to the folder and choose Create Classroom plan. Check that the detected topics and posts match your intended structure.

4. Review every post

You can rename topics and posts, exclude unwanted items, choose Material or Assignment, and set each file to View, Student copy, Edit, Description or Exclude.

A Google Doc marked Description supplies the text for that Classroom post and is not attached separately.

5. Select the destination

Choose the Google Classroom where the resources should be created. Check the source, destination and totals on the final review screen.

6. Build and inspect

New posts are created as drafts, so inspect them in Google Classroom before publishing anything to students.

Running the same build again

Course Builder keeps technical mapping records so it can recognise linked topics and posts. An unchanged repeat run should report items as reused or unchanged rather than creating duplicates.
